A workshop on intellectual property rights protection for law enforcement officers was held in Astana.

In Astana, at the Kazpatent site, an in-person stage of a joint WIPO-Kazakhstan project within the framework of the IMPACT capacity-building initiative took place. Within its framework, a national workshop for law enforcement officers was held on the protection of intellectual property rights. The event was aimed at improving competencies in the field of intellectual property rights protection and strengthening interagency cooperation.

The seminar brought together representatives of law enforcement agencies, government agencies and the expert community to discuss topical issues of countering violations in the field of intellectual property, as well as exchange international experience and best practices.

Invited international experts were invited as key speakers: Samer Al Tarawneh (Legal Adviser at the Department for Ensuring Respect for Intellectual Property (BRIP), Global Challenges and Partnerships Branch of WIPO, Geneva), Maria T. Beyeler-Sapiente (Legal Officer at the same Department of WIPO), Hong Soon Chin (Special Officer at the Office on Organized Crime and new types of crimes of Interpol, Singapore), as well as Christie O'Malley (Lawyer-Advisor to the ICHIP network, US Embassy in Bucharest, US Department of Justice).

During the seminar, the participants considered modern challenges in the field of intellectual property rights protection, including the fight against counterfeit products, digital violations and transnational crime, as well as issues related to improving law enforcement practices.

Following the results of the two-day training, the seminar participants who successfully completed all four stages of the program were awarded certificates. The award ceremony was attended by the Vice Minister of Justice of the Republic of Kazakhstan Zhaxelekova Botagoz.

The event was an important step in the development of international cooperation and strengthening the institutional capacity of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of protection and protection of intellectual property rights.
