The Fifth Summer of Intellectual Property in Kazakhstan: WIPO Summer School Opens in Almaty

On June 15, 2026, the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted the official opening ceremony of the fifth anniversary edition of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Summer School in Kazakhstan. The program is organized by Kazpatent in partnership with the National Academy of Sciences and with the support of WIPO.

The educational program was officially opened by Elena Shevchenko, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences, and Inkara Shertysheva, Head of the Development and International Cooperation Division of Kazpatent. In their welcoming remarks, they emphasized the growing importance of intellectual property in today’s world and highlighted the need for highly qualified professionals in this field.

This year, the Summer School has brought together representatives of academia, business, practicing lawyers, young professionals, and students. The project continues to expand its international reach, with a student from Uzbekistan among the participants.

Modangul Tagbergenova delivered a motivational address to the audience, sharing her professional experience, speaking about the opportunities that knowledge of intellectual property can provide, and wishing participants a productive and engaging two weeks of study.

Participants were also welcomed by Ilya Gribkov, Representative of the World Intellectual Property Organization. He provided an overview of WIPO’s activities, highlighting the Organization’s key priorities, international projects, and initiatives in the field of intellectual property.

On the first day of the program, participants visited the Museum of the National Academy of Sciences, where they learned about Kazakhstan’s history and scientific heritage.

The organizers of the Summer School express their sincere gratitude to the project’s partners and speakers, many of whom have supported the program annually for several years by sharing their knowledge, practical experience, and professional expertise. Thanks to their continued contribution, the WIPO Summer School in Kazakhstan has become a recognized international educational platform that brings together experts, young professionals, and members of the intellectual property community.

The Summer School program will run for two weeks. The first part is being held in person in Almaty, while the second part will be conducted online. Upon successful completion of the course, participants who have registered on the WIPO Academy website will receive internationally recognized certificates.
